ヒューマン・リーグの出身地でもあるシェーフィールドの大学生であったマーティン・フライを中心にVice Versaというサックスとシンセをフィーチャーしたエレクトロ・パンク・バンドを前身としてABCは結成された。元バグルスのトレヴァー・ホーンのプロデュースによるデビューアルバム『The Lexicon Of Love』はいきなり全英１位をなし遂げた。ABCはこのアルバムでゴージャス、ダンサブル、ファンキーなオーケストラル・ポップを究めた世界を作り上げた。皮肉にも、このアルバムの完成度の高さゆえ、２枚目以降のアルバムは同じレベルの評価と市場での成功を収めなかった。でも３枚目の『How To Be A Zillionare』はアニメ化されたヒップホップという独特の世界を構築した。マーティン・フライ、グレン・グレゴリーとキース・ロウンズによる９５年のマジック・スカルズのテクノ・プロジェクトに続き、６年のブランク経て、ＡＢＣとして」新譜『Skyscraping』をヘヴン１７のグレン・グレゴリーの協力を得てリリースした。初心者は先ずABCのヒット曲とリミックスを含んだコンピレーションアルバム『Absolutely』を勧めます。最後にザッツ・ライト！

＜ＫＫ氏＞ABCを脱退したドラマーのDavid Palmerが作ったグループで"Person To Person"というのをご存じでしょうか？"High Time(?)"というシングルはリリースしたと思うのですが...。 ピーターバラカンのラジオ番組でかかったのを聴いたような記憶があります。レコードお持ちの方は情報をおまちしています。

＜荒特派員＞Person To Personについて・・・シンセの音もすごくゴージャスでハデハデしい。例えるなら、FIXXがSCRITTI POLITTIを聴いて影響受けて、一発ヒットを狙った・・・というところですか。ちょっとブラコン趣味な感じもありで、ラジオ向けかなぁ。「HIGH TIME」はエレ度強くていい曲ですけどね。ちょうどYMOが散開する頃（83年の暮れ）、坂本龍一のラジオ番組「サウンドストリート」でYMOが揃った時があって、で、Davidもいたんですよ。そこで「今度PERSON TO PERSONというバンドをやるんだ」ということを言ってたんです(誰か通訳してたような気がするな。Peter Barakanだったかな)。David Palmerはその後、89年にTHE THEというバンドの『TIME BOMB』にメンバーの一員として参加してます。（ディスコグラフィー追加。）

ABC was formed by Martin Fry who was a college student in Sheffield known as the origin of Human League based on Vice Versa, an Electro Punk band featuring sax and synth. The debut album, "The Lexicon Of Love", produced by Trevor Horn , a former member of the Buggles, achieved the top in the U. K. chart. ABC created the gorgeous, danceable and funky orchestral pop world with this album. Ironically, the albums after this did not get the same level of credit and market success due to the perfection of this album. But, the third album "How To Be A Zillionare" created their own world of Animated Hip Hop. Following the Magic Skulls techno project in '95 by Martin Fry, Glenn Gregory, Keith Lowndes, ABC released "Skyscaping" with the support by Glenn Gregory of Heaven 17 after six years' interval. The beginner should get "Absolutely", a good compilation album containing ABC's hit tunes and remixes. Finally, "That's Right!"

<Mr. KK> Do you know the group called "Person To Person" formed by drummer David Palmer who left ABC? I think they released the single called "High Time(?)".... I remember that I heard it on radio program by Peter Barakan. If there is anyone who owns the record, pls. send the information!

<Correspondent Ara> About Person To Person....Synth sound is very gorgeous and glittering. It's like the Fixx shooting one hit influenced by Scritti Politti. It's a little Black Contemporary and suited for radio. "High Time" is a very Electro and good tune. When YMO was disbanded (late '83), David was with YMO members on Ryuchi Sakamoto's radio program "Sound Street". He was saying that he will play at Person To Person (I think someone translated it. Maybe Peter Barakan). David Palmer played as a member of The The in "Time Bomb" in '89. (Additional information in the discography.)

About the members after they left.

The activity after withdrawal of Marc Lickley which was an initial member is unknown.

Although David Palmer participated and left only "The Lexicon Of Love", it has participated in "How To Be-" and "Up" as a guest. YMO deployment tour is participated in recording of many, such as The Pet Shop Boys besides professorial NEO GEO tour, Tom Jones, Art of Noise, Billy Squier, Paul Young, Bryan Adams, Sting, aluminum Green, and Danny Wilson, after that at first in a roll. In The The, he had participated as a member.

Stephen Singleton seceded after the "Beauty Stab" release, and he constructed a unit called David Lewin and Bleep & Booster, and has released "The World Of Bleep & Booster." Moreover, it takes charge of participation on the album of Screaming Trees, and, otherwise, takes charge of the remix of East 17 or Suns Of Arqa.

David Yarritu which became a member suddenly by "How To Be-" works as a photographer in New York. Eden (Fiona Russell Powell) is unknown.

Mark White seceded after the "Abracadabra" release and retired from the music business and became a therapist.
