元Sailorという英国のエキゾチックなモダンポップ・バンドにいたGeorg Kajanusが結成したエレポップ・デュオ。

＜浅川氏＞70年後半から80年前半だと思うのですが、"DATA"（ダータと読む）というエレポップバンドのアルバムを持ってました。たぶんイギリスの方だと思ったのですが。

＜荒特派員＞「Opera Electronica」は、和久井光司氏によると幻のアルバムだそうで、僕も持ってません。「2-Time」は、唯一国内盤も出ていたアルバム。ミュージック・マガジンでは鈴木博文氏がレビューを担当していて、本作に対して「今更テクノ」と形容してました。確かに、'83年にしては・・・・という感じの旧タイプ・テクノ。・・・でも、それこそがグッとくるとこなんですねぇ。曲名も「プラスティック・マネー」とか、「ミュージック・エレクトロニック」とか。非常に良い感じです。
セイラーを彷彿させて、いい曲もあります。フランキー・ボウルターの声は、ちょっとサンディーに似てます。「Elegant Machinery」では僕は「Stop」がいちばん好き。ビョビョン♪っていうシンベの音が気持ちいいです。あと「Cubismo」とかも淡々としてて好きですね。この調子でもっとアルバム出して欲しかったなぁ・・・・。「Accumulator」は、スウェーデン盤が確認されているベスト盤。最初、まさか再結成?と思ってたけどちがった。ガッカリ。

「Hiho Silver」は正式なデビュー前にデュオ名義で出したプレ・セイラー盤。９１年の「Sailor」と「Street Lamp」は、オリジナル・メンバーによる再結成盤。いまだにライヴはやってるそう。ちなみにゲオルグ・カヤナスって変わった名前だなぁと思ってたら、どうやらロシア人みたいです。メンバーの他の活動としては、セイラー以前にゲオルグ・カヤナスはGeorg Hultgreenという名前でElectionに在籍。ドラムのグラント・サーペルはプログレ界では有名な（ジャケットだけが?）ブルース・ロック・バンドAffinityに在籍。ヘンリー・マーシュはGringoに在籍。また、フィル(フィリップ)・ピケットはカルチャー・クラブのほとんどのアルバムにが参加。共作もしています。最近ではゲオルグ・カヤナスとティム・ドライによるデュオNoirとして活動。

１．現在のセーラーのラインアップはPhil Pickett、Grant Serpell、Peter Lincoln (元Shakin' Stevensで Cliff Richardのギタリスト) とAnthony Englandです。来月にはデモ作成のためスタジオ入りの予定で、レコード会社をさがしています。
２．Georgは現在今まで彼がやったどれとも異なる「People Industry」というネオ・クラシックのプロジェクトに従事しています。彼曰くゆっくりと進行中ですが、来年には出せるようになるとの事です。

This is an Electro Pop duo formed by Georg Kajanus who was formerly in the band called "Sailer" which is a British exotic Modern Pop band.

<Mr. Asakawa> I had the album of an Electro Pop band called "DATA". I guess it was late 70's from early 80's. Perhaps, they are British.

<Correspondent Ara> According to Mr. Koji Wakui, "Opera Electronica" is an illusive album, and I do not own it. "2-Time" is only the album released in Japan. In Music Magazine, Mr. Hirobumi Suzuki did a review for this, and he said "still doing Techno". Certainly, it's an old-fashioned Techno as '83, but it moved my heart. The song titles are very nice such as "Plastic Money", "Music Electronic". There are some tunes which remind Sailor. Frankie Boulter's voice is a bit like Sandii. In "Elegant Machinery", I like "Stop" best. Synth bass sounds very good. "Cubismo" is also the simple tune I like. I wanted them to release more albums in that pace. "Accumulator" is the best album which I confirmed Swedish released. Initially, I thought it was reformed, but I was disappointed.

"Hiho Silver" is a pre-Sailor album released as a duo before the official debut. "Sailor" in '91 and "Street Lamp" were the albums by reunited original members. They appear to do lives still. I thought that Georg Kajanus was a strange name, and he seems to be Russian. As other activities of the members, Georg Kajanus was in Election under the name of Georg Hultgreen. Grant Serpell, a drummer, was in Affinity which is a Blues Rock band known (for the cover art) in Progressive Rock field. Henry Marsh was in Gringo. Phil Pickett joined most of the albums by Culture Club with some co-composing works. Recently, Georg Kajanus and Tim Dry acted as a duo "Noir".

1. The current line-up of Sailor is Phil Pickett, Grant Serpell, Peter Lincoln (ex-Shakin' Stevens and Cliff Richard guitarist) and Anthony England. They'll be going into the studio in the next month to do some demos for shopping around to record companies.
2. Georg is currently working on a neo-classical project, entitled "People Industry", which promises to be different from anything he has ever done before. He tells me it's going slowly, but it should be ready by next year.
