フランスの雑誌のフレーズが由来のデペッシュ・モードはインディー・レーベルのミュート・レコードの稼ぎ頭である。１９８１年から現在まで堅実に歩続け、今やエレクトロ・ポップ・バンドとしては異例の長寿バンドである。インダストリアルかつメランコリーなポップは彼等独自なものである。シングル『People Are People』は名曲である。このてのバンドとしては珍しく９０年代に『Songs Of Faith & Devotion』は全英全米チャートともに１位を達成した。１９８１年末に脱退したヴィンス・クラークはアリソン・モイェットとヤズーその後イレージャーを結成した。アラン・ワイルダーはサイド・プロジェクトとしてリコイルで二つのアルバムをリリースしている。

Depeche Mode whose name was taken from the phrase of French magazine is the head of cash makers of indie label Mute. They have been steadily stepping forward from 1981 to date and they now became a long lasting band which is unusual as an electro pop band. Their single, "People Are People", is a master piece. "Songs Of Faith & Devotion" achieved the number 1 in both U. K. and U. S. charts, which is unusual as a band in this field. Vince Clarke who left the band at the end of 1981 formed Yazoo with Alison Moyet, then Erasure. Alan Wilder released two albums under the name of Recoil as his side project.
