    ＜Ted＞僕にとっては『The Golden Age of Wireless』（「彼女はサイエンス」抜きのオリジナル版）が未だに彼のベストです。シンセとより人間的なサウンドの絶妙なバランス、そして彼の歌詞は後のわざとらしくて説教臭いところがなく印象派的（この頃彼はジョニー・ミッチェルがすきだった）である。
    ＜荒特派員＞Ted氏のコメントにもある通り、1st『THE GOLDEN AGE OF WIRELESS』には、収録曲と曲順が異なる、2種類のものが出ていました。下（左側）は、'82年に出た初回ヴァージョンです。

    邦題も、若干違いますね。見てのとおり、「彼女はサイエンス」と「ワン・オブ・アワ・サブマリン」は、収録されていません。その後、同曲がヒットしたため、'83年になって、アメリカで「彼女は〜」を追加収録し、再編集したアルバムが再発売されました。日本でも同年、アメリカ仕様にならって再発されました。B1がカットされ、上記の2曲が追加されたのです。
    
    ＜荒特派員（追記）＞1stのアメリカ盤をだいぶ前に買ってそのままほっといたのですが、こないだ聴いたらけっこう発見が。まずジャケはまったく違います。シングル「Europa and the Pirate Twins」のと同じ写真です。曲順もかなり違ってて、上（右側）のようになっています。もちろん「彼女はサイエンス」はまだ収録されていませんが、スチュワート&ガスキンもカヴァーした「Leipzig」と、そのカップリング「Urges」が収録されています。インディーズでリリースされたシングルだったようで、この曲だけ唐突に音質が悪くなるので、通して聴いてるとかなり違和感があります。で、「Radio Silence」のクレジットを見たら、アッコちゃんの名前がないのでおかしいなと思って、聴いてみたら全然別テイクでした。アッコちゃんはやはり参加しておらず、後のヴァージョンに比べてバンド・サウンドっぽくアレンジされており、パワーポップ的です。しかし1stって全部で何種類あるんでしょうかね。

    <Ted> To me, "The Golden Age of Wireless" (original version without"She Blinded Me With Science") still is his best, with a fine balance between synths and more human sounds, his lyrics are impressionistic (he loved Joni Mitchell at the time) instead of later when they become obvious and preachy.
    <Correspondent Ara> As Ted commented, the fist album "THE GOLDEN AGE OF WIRELESS" has two releases with different track listing and order. The first released was: (see the right in the above)
    As you can tell, there are no "She Blinded Me With Science" and "One Of Our Submarine". Later these two became hits, and "She Blinded..." was added in the U. S. in '83, and re-edited album was reissued. Japan, in the same year, followed the U. S. B1 was eliminated and these two tracks were added.

    ＜アルゼンチン在住のジョージ＞『Astronauts And Heretics』はテクノポップ・リズム満載で彼の音楽のヴィジョンが興味深いドルビーの代表作です。たくさんのサンプリング、ケイジャン・ヴァイオリンのような楽器との混合、目一杯のフェアライト・サウンド、ヴァン・ヘイレンのギター、オフラ・ハザのコーラス。私の意見では、これと『地平線』は彼のベスト・アルバムです。

    <Jorge in Argentin> "Astronauts And Heretics" is one of more representatives albums from Dolby because it is full of techno-pop rhythms and very interesting for the vision that he see the music. Full of samples and mixed with typical instruments like Cajun violins, full Fairlight sounds and an extra: Eddie Van Halen on guitars and Ofra Haza on chorus. For my opinion this and "The Flat Earth" are the best albums.

トーマス・ドルビーと言えば、やはり『彼女はサイエンス』です。あの曲は理科系の僕にとってはなかなかいかす曲でした。彼は、バグルスの『ラジオスターの悲劇』を競作したブルース・ウーリーのカメラクラブというバンドのキーボード担当でした。スーローな『エアーウェイヴ』、元気な『ハイパーアクティヴ』もナイスです。

Talking about Thomas Dolby, I remember "She Blinded Me With Science". It was a pretty nice song for me as scientific major student. He was in charge of key board in the band called Camera Club led by Bruce Wooley who co-wrote "Video Killed Radio Stars" of The Buggles. Slow "Airwave" and active "Hyperactive!" are also nice.
