テレサとデヴィドは７８年にダラーを結成し「Shooting
Star」で全英１位を達成した。二人はまるでソープ・オペラのスターの様な色男色女系です。この二人がバブルガム的スイートなエレポップを奏でるのだからノックアウトものである。「Hand
Held In Black And White（愛のポートレイト）」と「Mirror
Mirror（魔法の鏡）」はABCやFGTH以前にトレヴァー・ホーンがプロデュースした（トレヴァーとブルースの共作）トレヴァー・サウンドが爆発。カヴァーも得意とし、イレイジャーもカヴァーした「Oh
L'amour」（イレイジャーより英国ではヒットしたらしい。）、ビートルズの「抱きしめたい」をエレクトロ風に味付けしてよみがえらした。また、「Platinum
Rap」ではラップにも挑戦してます。なかなか日本で見つけるのは難しいですが、見つけたら買いです。

＜Harry Mook特派員からの情報＞こちら英国では現在DollarのDavid Van Dayをフィーチャーした英国の銀行のTV広告をやってます。最近ではDavidはBrightonでホットドッグ屋を経営していて、広告ではエプロンを着た彼がカウンターの後ろで働いています。パンチラインは「貴方はこんな風に全ての財産を使い果たしましたか？」のような感じ。落ちぶれても彼はユーモアのセンスがあります。2・3年前DollarはBazzar嬢抜きで80年代のレトロ・クラブ・サーキットで公演していました。僕は友達の一人とちょっと哀しいギグを見ました。この友達は楽屋に入り込み（警備員に追いかけられても）、二人分のサインの入った写真を手に入れてくれました。輝かしい瞬間。

send the U. K. #1 hit single "Shooting
Star". The two are like a hunky guy
and a sexy lady in soap opera. You will be
knocked out with bubble-gum sweet electro
pop by these two. "Hand Held In Black
And White" and "Mirror Mirror"
known as the song produced by Trevor Horn
(written/composed by Trevor/Bruce) before
he did for ABC and FGTH explodes with Trevor
sound. They are not shy for cover songs and
revived "Oh L'amour" also covered
by Erasure (it was a bigger hit than Erasure's
in the U. K.) and "I Wanna Hold Your
Hand" by the Beatles in an electronic
taste. They also challenged rap with "Platinum
rap". Their album is hard to find in
Japan, but if you find it, you should buy
it.

There is a TV ad by a British bank featuring
David Van Day of Dollar currently on rotation
here. These days David owns a hot dog stand
in Brighton and the ad shows him working
behind the counter wearing an apron. The
punchline: "Did you have to spend all
your money like that?" or something
like that. At least he has a sense of humour
about his downfall. A few years back Dollar
still performed in the 80s retro club circuit,
albeit without Miss Bazaar. I saw one of
those rather sad gigs with a friend of mine,
who managed to get backstage (chased by security
guards) and obtain signed photos for both
of us. What a starry moment.
