    ＜２０００年３月２３日に祝CD化！＞熱意と愛情を感じる再発シリーズ『NEO MODERN POP COLLECTION』がPOLYSTARよりリリース開始。第一弾はShi-Shonen、ImitationとEX。オリジナルの『EXHIBITION』はカメリア（POLYDOR系）からリリースされ、POLYSTARの音源ではないにも関わらずCD化された事に敬意を表す。梅林氏が語るEXの歴史が読み甲斐あります。EXの由来についても、明らかに。クラプトンのサポート話しは知りませんでした。小暮秀夫氏の『盗聴エディP-2』の引用に鋭さを感じます。『白夜に踊る』は個人的に大好きなNEW WAVEなリバプール・サウンド。今まで偶然にたよって聴いていた（それもいいのですが）、両溝プロモ盤の「MASKED BALL」が思い通りに聴けます。

    <CD reissue on March 23, 2000!> CD reissue series "NEO MODERN POP COLLECTION" made of passion and affection started to be released on Polystar. The first releases include Shi-Shonen, Imitation, EX. Though the original "Exhibition" was released on Camellia (Polydor), I respect Polystar reissued it as CD. It is worth reading the history of EX told by Mr. Umebayashi. The root of EX is now clear. "Platinam Night" is New Wave Liverpool sound I personally love. I can now listen two versions of "Masked Ball" in double-groove promotion disc which I cannot predict which will be played in a vynil disc.

    ＜２０００年９月２０日に祝CD化！＞EXのファーストがCD化されるだけでも感激しましたが、この「EX2」と名づけられたEXのセカンドとも言える幻のアルバムが日の目を見ることとなるとは…POLYSTARの熱意に改めて脱帽です。トラック1〜8は初期EXから解散直前の84年のEXのテープから甦った幻の楽曲たち。詳しくは梅林茂氏の証言を元にした解説を読んで欲しいが、元Sheena & The Rokketsの奈良敏博氏（「テクノ・ボーイ」ではメンバーとして紹介されていました）、元シネマの小滝満氏、後リアル・フィッシュ等でサックス奏者として活躍する矢口博康氏がメンバーだったころのレコーディングから後期EXの新しい音楽性が覗える。「Sweet Little Dancer」はピンク・レディーの「ラスト・プリテンダー」のB面「AMENIC（逆回転のシネマ）」の原曲となったもの。トラック9と10はLAツアーのリハーサル音源。11は「スネークマンショウ」のアウト・テイク。そして、シークレット・トラックもあります。通常、未発売トラックと言うのは、レア度は高いが内容的に落ちてしまうものが多いが、これはレア度も内容も充実した世の中に出るべくして出たといえるものです。

    <CD reissue on Setember 20, 2000!> I was exicited by the CD re-issue of EX's first album, but now this illusive 2nd album named as "EX2" goes to public...I was shocked by this with a lot of respect to Polystar. Track 1 to 8 are the illusive tracks from the tapes of early EX to EX in '84 just before they are disbanded. While I want you to read the detailed explanation based on Mr. Shigeru Umebayashi's testimony, you can see the new music oritentation of the post-EX from the recordings when Mr. Toshihiro Nara of ex-Sheena & The Rokkets (he was introduced as a member in "Techno Boy"), Mr. Mitsuru Kotaki of ex-Cinema, and Mr. Hiroyasu Yaguchi who later became active as a sax player in Real Fish, etc., were the members of EX. "Sweet Little Dancer" is the origin of "Amenic", side B of "Last Pretender" by Pink Lady. Track 9 and 10 are rehearsa recording of LA tour. Track 11 is an out-take of "Snakeman Show". And there are secret tracks. Normally unreleased tracks tend to have less quality while they are rare; however, this is rare and high in quality, which derserves the release.

エックスといってもＸ−ＪＡＰＡＮのエックスではない。内田裕也にデモテープを渡したとき、名前が書いてなかったのでミスター・Ｘと呼ばれたことに由来する。加藤和彦をプロデューサに迎え、ファーストアルバムを出した。プロモ盤では恐怖の２本溝で２種類の「Masked Ball」が聴けます。奈良氏は元シーナ＆ロケッツです。彼等のＴＥＳＴＥＤ　ＱＵＡＬＩＴＹの入ったコックさんのロゴはとても好きです。ビートルズ好きの私にとって彼等のリバプール・サウンドをニューウェイヴ・アレンジで８０年代に蘇らせた音は郷愁を誘います。ＹＭＯのウインターライヴのツバキハウス公演では梅林茂さんはゲスト出演しました。梅林茂のセカンド『Ume』は元Sailor（又はData）のGeorg Kajanusによるプロデュースです。梅林茂さんの名前はＮＨＫ連続朝のドラマ『ふたりっこ』等のＴ．Ｖ．の音楽にクレジットされています。

＜オクダケンゴ特派員からの情報＞松田優作が８５年に発表した６枚目のアルバム『Deja・vu』のバッキングはＥＸだそうです。森田芳光監督・松田優作主演の映画「それから」の音楽も梅林茂が担当していました。

＜櫻井氏からの情報＞松田優作が監督、主演した「ア・ホーマンス」という映画の音楽も担当していた記憶があります…映画猫の幻燈館によると、梅林さんを除く二人が音楽担当だったようです。

X is not X of X-Japan. When they passed their demo tape to Yuya Uchida, there was no name written on the tape. They are called Mr. X because of this. Ex came from this story. They release the first album by having Kazuhiko Kato as producer. The promotion disc has double grooves and you can listen 2 types of "Masked Ball". Nara used to be in Sheena & The Rokkets. I liked their logo of two cooks with 'TESTED QUALITY'. Their sound which rearranged Liverpool sound into 80's with new wave taste makes me who likes Beatles nostalgic . Shigeru Umebayashi appeared as guest in the Tsubaki House gig of YMO Winter Live. Shigeru Umebayashi's second album "Ume" was produced by Georg Kajanus, ex-Sailor (or Data). The name of Shigeru Umebayashi was credited for T. V. music such as NHK Morning Series Drama "Futarikko".

<Info. from Mr. Kengo Okuda> The 6th album "Deja vu" by Yusaku Matsuda in '85 was backed up by EX. The soundtrack for the movie "Sore Kara" starring Yusaku Matsuda directed by Yoshimitsu Morita was done by Shigeru Umebayashi.

I was also once EX's "manager" for a couple of years. Do you have any details of his address, contact numbers or e-mail address? I would very much like to get in contact with him after all these years.

<Info. from Mr. Sakurai> I remember that they did soundtrack for the movie "A-Homance" directed by and starring Yusaku Matsuda. According to Eiganeko No Gentoukan, the two excluding Mr. Umebayashi did it.
