J-FUSION / CROSS-OVER / JAZZ

日本のフュージョンは海外のフュージョンとは、かなり異なる形でより実験的な進化を遂げました。特に日本では一見、対極にある様に見えるテクノポップとフュージョンは、密接に繋がっています。YMOの最初の1.5枚までは、テクノ・ディスコ・フュージョンと言っていい作風。教授のYMO以前におけるソロ及びKYLYNセッション、高橋幸宏が余り語りたがらないSadistics、細野晴臣のTin Pan Alleyは、その程度には差があるものの、フュージョン的です。また、渡辺香津美、大村憲司、橋本一子等のYMOサポート陣も、フュージョン、ジャズのフィールドのミュージシャンです。海外のフュージョン系のミュージシャンで、テクノと関わったと言えば、Herbie Hancock（「Rockit」は、エレクトロとしてあまりにも有名）、Shakatak（Bill SharpeはGary Numanと共演）等ですね。

Japanese Fusion was evolved in a more experimental fashion which is quite different from overseas Fusion. Especially in Japan Techno Pop and Fusion which appear to stand in the opposite corners are closely linked together in reality. The first 1.5 albums is almost Techno Disco Fusion. Ryuichi Sakamoto's solo before YMO and KYLYN session, Sadistics that Yukihiro Takahashi does not want to mention much, Haruomi Hosono's Tin Pan Alley, are Fusion-esque though their degrees are different. YMO supporters such as Katsumi Watanabe, Kenji Ohmura, Ichiko Hashimoto are also musicians in the field of Fusion. Among overseas Fusion musicians, those who were invovled with Techno are Herbie Hancock ("Rockit" very famous Electro tune) and Shakatak (Bill Sharpe collabrated with Gary Numan), etc.

Colored Music / Science Fiction / Hashimoto, Ichiko（橋本一子）

元はサイエンス・フィクションと言うバンド名だった橋本一子と藤本敦夫からなるデュオ。橋本一子さんはソロでも数枚アルバムをリリースしたはずです。ギタリストのだんなは大村憲司氏が出られなかった時だけ参加していたようです。
＜なにをさんからの情報＞ＹＭＯのＪＡＰＡＮツアーには奥方である橋本一子様が参加してましたね。橋本さんが矢野さんの後がまに選ばれたのは多分教授の趣味だと思います。ルックス重視で（笑）。バンド事体はミュージックフェアかなんかに出たのを見たことあります。ちょっとワールドミュージック入ってるニューウエーブ？って感じ。
＜ニック・ケント氏からの情報＞彼女の初ソロ『イチコ』は興味深いです。ミュージック・インテリア・シリーズの一部です。英国でもリリースされました。歌はありません。教授の『コーダ』のように最後の所までピアノとエレクトロニック・サウンドです。
＜荒特派員からの情報＞ポリドールは結構彼女に力を入れてたようで、CDに同封されていたアンケートのハガキを出したら色々とダイレクトメールを送ってきてくれました。中にはアルバムのダイジェストCDなんかもあって、嬉しかったですね。同じポリドールだったということなのか、平沢進氏との共演ライブなんかもありました。
また、サックス奏者の梅津和時氏のバンド、どくとる梅津DIVAにも参加。メンバーは、梅津和時（As, Ss, Ts, Bass, Sax, Cl, B-Cl 他）、橋本一子（P, Key, Vo他)、高田みどり（Perc, Vo他)、れいち（Dr, Vo他) の4人。

This is a duo consisting of Ichiko Hashimoto and Atsuo Fujimoto formerly called Science Fiction. Ms. Ichiko Hashimoto should have released several albums as solo. Her husband, a guitarist joined only when Mr. Kenji Omura was not available.
<Info. from Mr. Naniwo> Ms. Ichiko Hashimoto joined YMO's Japan Tour. I guess that Ms. Hashimoto was chosen after Ms. Yano due to the taste of Mr. Sakamoto :). I saw the band on the TV program, something like Music Fair. It's like New Wave with World Music.
<Info. from Mr. Nick Kent> Her first solo "Ichiko" is interesting. Part of the Music Interior series. It was released in the UK also. All piano. No singing. Like Sakamoto's Coda, even the last piece is piano and electronic sounds.
<Info. from Mr. Correspondent Ara> Polydor seems to have pushed her. They sent direct mails to me as I sent in-pack questionnaire letter in the CD. I was pleased that there was the digest CD of her albums. There was also a collaboration live with Mr. Susumu Hurasawa as both were on Polydor.
She also joined Doctor Umezu Diva, a band led by Mr. Kazutoki Umezu, a sax player. Members are Kazutoki Umezu (As, Ss, Ts, Bass, Sax, Cl, B-Cl, etc.), Ichiko Hashimoto (P, Key, Vo, etc.), Midori Takada (Per, Vo, etc.), Reichi (Dr, Vo, etc.).

Cosmos

以前BBSでも話題となったシンセ・フュージョンをやる女性トリオ。イージーリスニングとして再評価（されないでしょう）。シンセマニアの落語家、桂文珍がライナーノーツを書いています。大阪厚生年金会館で文珍の独演会と彼女達とジョイントで「音と光と語り」という企画を実現させたらしい。また、文珍がスキャット・由紀さおりと司会をしていた関西系の番組でもアルバムに収録されている「Spiral Dream」が使われていました。他にもアルバムはリリースしているらしい。

This is a Synth Fusion female trio that became a topic in BBS. They may be reappreciated as Easy Listening, probably not. Bunchin Katsura known as a synth-mania comedian wrote the liner notes. Bunchin's talk show and joint performance "Sound And Light And Talk" was done at Osaka Koseinenkin Hall. "Sprial Dream" in the album was used in the local TV program hosted by Bunchin and Saori Yuki. There are a few albums released.

FAD

帯に「彗星の如く現れたFAD!! FADのシンセ・ポップスには体温がある。」と書かれています。西海岸風シンセ・フュージョン＋シティ・ポップスという感じです。

The band of paperi says "FAD appeared like a comet. FAD's Synth Pops has a human temperature." It's like West Coast Synth Fusion + City Pops.

Haniwa-chan（はにわちゃん） / Haniwa（はにわ） / Senba, Kiyohiko & Haniwa All Stars（仙波清彦とはにわオールスターズ）

３つとも着物が似合う仙波清彦率いる多数のユニットで、池田有希子（はにわちゃん）、小川美潮、戸川純、種ともこ、等等も参加している。

All three were the units with multiple artists led by Kiyohiko Senba whom Japanese kimono fits well. Akiko Ikeda (Haniwa-chan), Mishio Ogawa, Jun Togawa, Tomoko Tane, etc. participated.

Kondo, Toshinori IMA（近藤等則 IMA）

＜オクダケンゴ特派員からの情報＞テクノファンクという括りで梵鉾を掲載するなら、冨樫春生が参加していたエレクトリックファンク集団、近藤等則 IMAも載せた方がイイと思います。IMAはInternational Music Activityの略です。

＜荒特派員からの情報＞サディスティックス幸宏氏自ら、「ボクの音楽の歴史の中で、最大の汚点」とまで語ったバンド。確かに、おもしろくないです。最初の3枚は、８６〜８９年にCD化され、９４年には再発もされたのですが、その時には『ライブ・ショウ』だけ再発されずに、2枚だけが再発されたのです。『ライブ・ショウ』のCDはレアです。でも、特に推薦しません。（ディスコグラフィ−参照。）

<Info. from Correspondent Ara> Sadistics is the band that Mr. Yukihiro Takahashi said "It was the biggest dirt spot in the musical history of mine". It's not so interesting. The first 3 albums were iissued as CD in '86-'89 and re-issued in '94 except "Live Show". "Live Show" CD is rare. But, it's not recommended. (Please refer to the discography.)

Sato, Hiroshi（佐藤博） / Sato, Hiroshi ex-Hackleback（佐藤博・元ハックルバック）

＜オクダケンゴ特派員からの情報＞元ハックルバックの佐藤博とは別人の佐藤博のアルバム『青空』は坂本龍一が12曲中5曲を編曲。『FUTURE FILE』に収録されている「FUNKY MULTI」を聴けば、はは〜んコレってコイツの作品やったんやぁと思われると思いますよ。ビートルズのカヴァーの「This Boy」と「I Want To Hold Your Hands」は両曲とも彼らしい清涼感のある仕上がりのエレポップです。
＜荒特派員からの情報＞Bellwoodからリリースのアルバム『青空』についてはわかりませんが、他のアルバムは、すべて元ハックルバックの方の佐藤博氏のものだと思われます。『オリエント』は細野さん参加（2曲だけ）のアルバム。シンセのアルバム、というよりはフュージョン寄りで、オリエンタルな曲調はティン・パン・アレイを思わせる感じ。本人の歌もアリ。また、『FUTURE FILE』と『青空』の2枚は、別の佐藤博氏のことだということになります。しかし、同名異人のアルバムに、教授と細野さんがそれぞれ参加しているわけですから、これは混同されてもおかしくはないですね。

<Info. from Correspondent Kengo Okuda> 5 of the 12 songs in the album "Aozora" by Hiroshi Sato who is different from Hiroshi Sato, ex. Hackleback, were arranged by Ryuichi Sakamoto. You will understand it's done by him if you listen to "Funky Multi" in the "Future Life". Both "This Boy" and "I Want To Hold Your Hand" covering the Beatles are his kind of refreshing Electro Pop.
<Info. from Correspondent Ara> While I am not certain about the album "Aozora" on Bellwood, all the other albums seem to be done by Hiroshi Sato, ex. Hackleback. "Orient" is the album supported by Haruomi Hosono (2 tracks). It is like Fusion rather than Synth. There are songs sung by himself. "Future File" and "Aozora" appear to be made by two different Hiroshi Sato. But, the albums by the different persons with the same name were supported by Ryuichi Sakamoto and Haruomi Hosono respectively. No wonder to be confusing.

Omura, Kenji（大村憲司）

元バンブー、カミーノの大村氏はＹＭＯのツアー・サポート・ギタリストとしても活躍しました。個人的には高橋幸宏のアルバム『音楽殺人』でのエレキが印象的です。ジョージ・ハリスンの『ファー・イースト・マン』のカヴァーもいいです。残念ながら９８年１１月に他界されました。

Mr. Omura formerly in Bamboo and Camino (?) was a supporting guitarist for the YMO tour. Personally, I like his electric guitar play in the album "Murdered By Music" of Yukihiro Takahashi. His cover of George Harrison's "Far East Man" is lovely. Regrettably, he passed away in Nov. '98.

Watanabe, Kazumi（渡辺香津美）

Wonder City Orchestra

現在もサウンドトラック等で活躍する音楽家、久石穣が14人のゲストを集めて作ったテクノ・フュージョン・オーケストラ。電子楽器を駆使して作ったという感じ。鈴木さえ子（ドラムス）と岩崎工（ヴォーカル・コーラス）が、1曲づつ参加してます。

This is Techno Fusion orchestra formed by Joe Hisaishi, a musician who is still active for soundtrack, etc. by inviting 14 guests. It seems to be made leveraging electronic instruments. Saeko Suzuki (drums) and Takumi Iwasaki (vocal, chorus) joined for one track each.
