  ＜サトル特派員＞スティック・ベースに興味がある（楽器は全然出来ませんがサウンド的に）私は、当然 KAJAGOOGOO のニック・ベッグスにも注目してまして、その日もKAJAGOOGOOのコーナーをチェックしました処、見慣れない『LIMAHL'S GREATEST HITS』というCDを見つけ、「また、リマールのベスト？前にも確か出てたはずだけど」と思いながらも一応曲目チェックをしました。「1. Never Ending Story -やっぱりねぇ。2. Too Shy -当然かな。3. Ooh To Be Aah -フンフン、4. Big Apple -ん～、えっ、これって(KAJAGOOGOO)抜けた後じゃん」てな感じで年甲斐もなく驚いてしまいました。他にも「The Lion's Mouth, Turn Your Back On Me, Shouldn't Do That」と計4曲もリマール自身が抜けた後の KAJAGOOGOO の曲がクレジットされてまして、「何だこりゃ」と思いつつ、890円と言う値段もあって買って聴いてみました。確かにリマールの声で上記の曲が歌われていました。しかも他のソロ名義の曲も全て（？）新録音！でも、アレンジそのまま、オリジナルに（かなり）忠実に再現されていました。しかも、 DOLBY SURROUND。クレジットも殆ど無く、ミュージシャンも不明、レコード会社もなんか怪しい。
  ★ひょっとしたら、ソックリさんかブートレグ？
  ★本人だとしたらこんな未練タラタラのアルバム作って恥ずかしくないのか？
  ★ライブ録音でもないのに、なんで DOLBY SURROUND なんだ？
  等々、謎ばかりが残った、一種キワモノアルバムでした。
  <Correspondent Satoru> I'm paying attention to Nick Beggs as I am interested in stick bass (though I am not capable of playing it). I was checking the Kajagoogoo secton, and found the CD "Limahl's Greatest Hits" which I was not familiar with. Though I thought it's another Limahl's best compilation, I checked the track listing. Track 1: Never Ending Story - as expected. Track 2: Too shy - it's a must. 3. Ooh To Be Aah - a-ha, 4. Big Apple - well...strange! it's after he left Kajagoogoo! I was shocked by this. There are 4 songs in total after Limahl left such as The Lion's Mouth", "Turn Your Back On Me", "Shouldn't Do That". I got it as it's priced at \890 though I felt what the hell this is. The above songs were sung by Limahl for sure. And, solo tracks are newly recoreded. But, the arrangement is almost the same as the original. It's Dolby Surround. Almost no credits for musicians. The record company's name is also suspicious.
  *It's this Limahl's look-a-like? Or a bootleg?
  *What is he thinking about making this kind of album if this is his?
  *Why is it Dolby Surround though it's not a live album?
  It's mysterious album....

Smalltown Elephants

Smalltown Elephantsは、カジャグーグーのギタリストSteve Askewが、クラシックス・ヌヴォー末期('84～'85)のドラマーだったPaul Turley、そしてヴォーカルのAndy Fitzgeraldと結成したバンド。'87年、A-HAのツアーをサポートし、同年シングル１枚のみをリリースしたあと、契約上の問題でやむなく解散。

KajagoogooはDuran DuranのNick Rhodesにプロデュースによるデビューをしたということからも、Duran Duranのニュー・ロマンティックス界に於ける弟的存在として『君はトゥー・シャイ』で注目を浴びた。むしろエレクトロ・Bay City Rollersと私は呼びたい。その後、LimahlはGeorgio Moroderの力を借りてソロとして映画『ネバーエンディング・ストーリー』の主題歌で一矢報いるが、グループはKajaと改名した甲斐もなく凋落の道を辿ってしまう。

Kajagoogoo got strong attention with "Too Shy" as a younger brother of Duran Duran in New Romantics world since they were produced by Nick Rhodes of Duran Duran. I would rather call them Electro Bay City Rollers. Later, Limahl as a solo made a nice hit with the theme song of "Neverending Story" movie with Georgio Moroder's help, but their popularity declined even after they renamed as Kaja.
