リーヴァイスのテレビ宣伝で使用された『スペースマン』が超ヒットした。ジャスマン率いるネオ・グラムの一発屋です。ファースト・アルバムは中古屋の特価コーナーの常連ですね。セカンドはこけたみたい。
"Spaceman" used in TV commercial of Levi's became a super hit. This is a Neo Glam one-hit wonder led by Jas Mann. The first album is often put in bargain price section in used record shops. The second album appears to have failed.
８４年にロンドンでデビューしたのシンセ＋ストリングス・サウンドでアレンジしたトラッド・フォーク的バンド。テスト・デプトのメンバーも在籍した。マーティン・ハネットも『Evening World Holiday Show』と言う曲をプロデュースしています。
This is a London-debuted Traditional Folk band arranged with synth + strings sound. A member of Test Dept was also in the band. Martin Hannet produced the song called "Evening World Holiday Show".
セカンドシングル「Imagination」がヒットしたNevile Keighleyのソロユニット。ヒプノシス系のグリーン・バック・フィルムスが「Imagination」のためにセクシャルなミュージック・ヴィデオを製作。
This is a solo unit by Nevile Keighley who had a hit with the second single "Imagination". Green Back Films stemmed from Hypnosis produced a sexual music video for "Imagination".
ロンドンで買った８０年代から活動してるチャンバワンバの新譜です。シングルの『Ｔｕｂｔｈｕｍｐｉｎｇ』がＵＫトップ１０チャートに入ってました。その後、米国でもシングル２位アルバム５位とブレイク中。音は、ダンス系ちゃんこ鍋で、エレクトロ、ヒップホップ、何でもありで結構ポップです。ちなみに政治的に過激な（左翼系無政府主義者的）発言を得意としている。また、辛辣な批評をされており面白いことに彼等のホームページにも紹介されている。メッセージの是非はともかく注目のバンドです。
This is the new album by Chumbawamba active since 80's which I bought in London. The single "Tubthumping" was in the top 10 in the U. K. chart. Later, they broke out in the U. S. with the 2nd position for the single and 5th position for the album. Their sound is dance "chanko-nabe" (mixed pot) with everything such as electro, hip hop and pretty pop. They like to make politically radical statements (lefty anarchist like). They often get terrible critics and interestingly they are introduced in their home page. Taking their message aside, it is the band with attention.

A Canadian female singer who was listed in the book "Techno-Pop/Ele-Pop". SHe is known to write the lyrics for Nena's 99 Red Balloons".
ベルギー発の名前の通りポップの路線まっしぐらのバンドです。ビートルズ的ルーツにエレポップ、ギターポップの要素を混ぜ合わせたサウンド。ヴィジュアル的にもひねくれています。あえて言えば、Denimとかに近いかも。
This is a Belgian band pursuing the straight course of Pop as the name suggests. It has the sound blending the elements of Electro Pop and Guitar Pop on the top of Beatlish roots. They are visually twisted. They may be close to Demin if I quote anyone.

EMF is gangsters who achieved the number one in the U. S. with "Unbelievable" though they were called as the copy of Jesus Jones.
Frazier Chorusはストリングス・アレンジが利いた耽美的エレポップ。4ADからヴァージンにデビュー後間もなく移籍した。元Frazier ChorusのKate Holmes（美人だと思う）は、ソロ・プロジェクトのScubaを経て、女性エレポップデュオのTechnique（New Orderが好きなのね）で活動。
Frazier Chorus is an aesthetic Electro Pop with nice strings arrangement. They moved from 4AD to Virgin Records soon. Kate Homes of ex-Frazier Chorus (I think she is beauty) is working as a female Electro Pop duo called Technique after her solo project Scuba.

８９年に『リキタイザー』でデビューしたジーザス・ジョーンズはメタリックなギターとエレクトロ・ダンス・ビートを組み合わせグルーブ感溢れるサウンドを生み出した。今や、中古屋の特売コーナーに並んでいる。
Jesus Jones who debuted with "Liquidizer" generated groovin' sound combining metallic guitar and electro dance beat. Their albums are now in the bargain section in used record shops.
『Shattered Dreams』は、ちょっとAORっぽい哀愁のライト・エレポップ。かなりのヒットになったのでは？
"Shattered Dreams" is a bit AOR-like melancholic Light Electro Pop. I think it was a big hit at that time.
＜Harry Mook特派員＞70年代末から活動している超ユニークで超メロディックなオランダのコンボ。「Work」（1980年）のような初期のアルバムはかなりシンセ・ミニマリスト。彼らはまた80年代中期にサンプラーのとても革新的な使い方をした最初のバンドの一つです。最近では中年症候群なのか、ビートルズ調になってきました。
<Correspondent Harry Mook> Totally unique and ultramelodic Dutch cult combo that has been going since the late 70s. Early albums like "Work" (1980) were quite synthminimalist - they were also one of the first bands to use samplers in a really innovative way in the mid-80s. Lately they've hit middle-age crisis and become more Beatle-y.
＜荒特派員＞ニック・プリタスは、教授とロビン・スコットの共作「アレンジメント」の作詞担当としてクレジットされていた人。ZTTの女性歌手、アン・ピガールのアルバムでもほとんどの曲を書いていました。もともとアンとニックはvia vagabondというユニットを組んでいて、そのユニットでリリースしたのが「Who Likes Jazz?」のシングルでした(日本ではニックのソロ名義に変えられてしまった)。ニックは他にもティナ・ターナー、デヴィッド・ボウイ、リーナ・ラヴィッチ、B.E.F.やへヴン17など多数のセッションに参加。'70年代にはルーガレーター(Roogalator)というバンドに参加、'75年にはライヴにセックス・ピストルズが前座として出たという。また、ミック・ジョーンズからの「クラッシュへ入らないか」という誘いを断ったという過去もあるとか。その後、当時ルーガレーターを発掘し、そのマネージャーをやっていたロビン・スコットがバンドのために設立したのがDO IT RECORDSだったのです。ニックはMの最初のシングル「Moderne Man」にも参加しています。1stアルバム『Who Likes Jazz?』はロビン・スコットが3曲、B.E.F.が5曲、本人が1曲プロデュースを担当。音は打ち込みの、ちょっと歌が入ったジャジーでオシャレなBGMという感じ。タイトル曲が車のCMに使われ小ヒット、本人はその後オンワードのCMにモデルとして登場してしまいました。アルバムを出すごとに普通のAORっぽくなっていってしまったのは残念。
<Correspondent Ara> Nick Plytas is a person credited for lyrics for "Arrangement" that is the collaboration album by Ryuichi Sakamoto and Robin Scott. He also wrote most of the songs in the album by Anne Pigalle, a female singer on ZTT. Originally Nick formed the unit called via vagabond, and "Who Likes Jazz?" was the only release by this unit (in Japan it was changed to Nick's solo.). Nick also participated in many sessions such as Tina Turner, David Bowie, Lina Lavich, B.E.F. and Heaven 17. In the 70's he was in the band called Roogalator and Sex Pistols did an opening act for them in '75. I also heard that he rejected the offer to join Clash by Mick Jones. DO IT RECORDS was founded by Robin Scott who discovered and managed Roogalator for them. Nick also joined M's first single "Modern Man". The first album "Who Likes Jazz" includes 3 tracks produced by Robin Scott, 5 by B.E.F. and 1 by himself. The sound is programmed Jazzy stylish BGM with a bit of singing. The titled song was used for TV commercial and became a small hit. He later appeared as a model on the commerial for Onward. As he releaes more albums, it's a pity that it became more AOR.

Red Box is a ethnic pop duo with melody of nostalsia. They have smash hits of "Lean On Me" and "America" in the mid 80's.
＜Harry Mook特派員＞80年代中期に2・3の記憶に残る華やかなシングル（「Praying To The Beat」と「Politics Of Dancing」）をリリースした英国のバンド。
This is an excellent band with 80s straight Electro Pop sound combining The Fixx, Duran Duran and Ultravox. It's a pitty that they were disbanded after releasing one album. I like it a lot. In '85, Paul Fishman left to join the tour of Thompson Twins, and they stopped the activity. The second album "Humanication" was never released. After disbanding, Paul Fishman and Roland Vaughan Kerridge joined the albums such as The Adventure's "Sea Of Love" (1988) and Sam Brown's "Stop" (1988). Roland Vaughan Kerrdge also participated in Vitamin Z's the 2nd album "Sharp Stone Rain" (1989). Nigel Ross-Scott used to be Gloria Mundi (proto-Eddi & Sunshine), and the 2nd album "Word Is Out" was produced by John Punter. He became a member with the introduction by Thomas Dolby. After disbanding, he also participated in Midge Ure's "Gift" and Nina Hagen's albms.

Lamentの歌です。
＜Brent＞Sex Clark FiveはBBCで凄くかっこいい曲を聴いた新譜CD『Crimson
Panzer』を出しました。マルクス兄弟の映画に出てくるようなアシッドなEverly
Brothersです。今までこんなの聴いた事ない。

that do strum and drum music sort of Celtic
Psychadelic. Real short songs like They Might
Be Giants, SC5 are strummy and melidic pop.
Funny quirky lots of skewed historical themes.

<Brent> SC5 has a new CD, Crimson Panzer that I've
heard some terrific tracks on the BBC. These
guys are the Everly Brothers on acid in a
Marx Brothers Movie. Unlike anything I've
ever heard.

The Stone Roses which stood at the peak of Manchester boom was disbanded and they are now active as Seahorses and Ian Brown (His face is a bit scary!).
Mike Scottを中心としたスコットランド出身バンド。『The Whole Of The Moon』は、Simple Mindsを思わせるエレポップ。
A Scottish band centered around Mike Scott. "The Whole Of The Moon" is an Electro Pop reminding Simple Minds.
