PROGRESSIVE ROCK

今でこそ、プログレと聞くとなんだか古臭いですが、７０年代に於いてはその名前が示唆するように先進的なサウンドでありました。シンセを導入したのもプログレ系の人達に多く、あのクラフトワークもドイツのプログレであるクラウト・ロックとして見られていた訳です。僕の好きなバグルズもイエスに入ってしまったり（個人的にはあまり嬉しくなかったけど）、エイジアで後に活動したりとプログレとテクノポップは繋がっています。日本でも四人囃子のメンバーもテクノポップ（プラスチックス、ヒーロー）へと流れていきました。プログレがポップ寄りになるとモダンポップとの境界がつけにくくもあります。ドイツのプログレとも言えるKraut Rockは別ページです。

Nowadays, Progressive Rock sounds old, but it was a "progressive" sound in the 70's as the name implies. Many Progressive Rock artists started to use synths, and Kraftwerk was regarded as Kraut Rock, German Progressive Rock. My favourite Buggles joined Yes (I was not pleased personally) and acted in Asia. Progressive Rock and Techno Pop are connected. In Japan, the members of Yonin Bayashi moved into Techno Pop (Plastics, Hero). When Progressive Rock becomes pop, it's hard to draw the line vs. Modern Pop. Ex-Procol Harum organist became Techno Pop in 80's. I think the name of magazine "Strange Days" came from his album.

Ph. D. is not Electro Pop. It's not Progressive Rock. It's a kind of Progressive Pop like pop YES.

Second Handというプログレ・バンドを母体とする７４年に結成された悲劇のバンド（詳しくは日本語ライナー参照）。プログレ＋モダンポップ＋プレ･エレポップと言った感じで、時代にマッチできなかったのでしょう。この時期においてシンセを多用したポップな曲作り、レゲエ調の曲など、評価に値するニッチポップです。

A tragidic band formed based on Progressive Rock band "Second Hand" in '74. Their unique sound combining Progressive + Modern Pop + pre-Electro Pop probably did not match the age. It's a Niche Pop to be appreciated as they had pop tracks with synth sound-making, and a Reggae-like track.

このデイヴ・スチュワートはユーリズミックスのデイヴではない。元エッグ及びハットフィールド＆ザ・ノースのカンタベリー派のプログレッシヴ・ロックのキーボーディストのスチュワートと実力派女性ヴォーカリストのガスキンのデュオである。８０年代的エレポップを取り入れたカヴァー曲『イッツ・マイ・パーティー』は全英１位となった。『ザ・シングルズ』というベスト盤が出てます。トーマス・ドルビーの書いた作品も入ってます。
＜荒特派員＞最近は全然噂を聞かない、職人的なブリティッシュ・ポップスを奏でる二人組。でも元プログレ。バーバラ・ガスキンは、スパイロジャイラというブリティッシュ・フォーク・ロック・バンド出身。その透明感のある歌声が魅力的。昔、友人に「I'm in a Different World」を聴かせたところ、「カーペンターズ?」と言われたことがあります。たしかにハーモニー部分は瓜二つですが。（ディスコグラフィーの解説も参照。）
Spirogyraとまったく同名のフュージョン・バンドも存在しますが、もちろん無関係です。Spirogyraはまぁテクノとは全然無関係ですが．．．ババーラ・ガスキンの昔の写真を見ましたが、やっぱり美人ですね～。

This Dave Stewart is not Dave in Eurythmics. This is a duo consisting of Stewart who is a keyboarder of Canterbury progressive rock formerly in Egg and Hatfield and The North, and Gaskin who is a very capable singer. "It's My Party", a cover song with 80's electro pop arrangement became the number 1 in the U. K. Their best compilation "The Singles" is available. It contains s song written by Thomas Dolby.
<Correspondent Ara> A duo playing craftsmanship British Pops which I have not heard anything recently. But, ex-Progressive Rock. Barbara Gaskin is originally from a British Folk Rock band "Spirogyra". Attractive transparent voice. When I played "I'm in a Different World" for my friend, he asked if it's Carpenters. The harmony part is very similar though.
There is a Fusion band called "Spyrogyra", but it's not related of course. But, Syrogyra is nothing related to Techno..... I saw the old picture of Babara Gaskin. She is beauty.

  「ド・モ・ア・リ・ガ・ト・ミスター・ロボット」で始まる「ミスター・ロボット」を外してはいけないですね。スティックスはアメリカのプログレ・ポップ・バンドでこのテクノな曲はアルバム『Kilroy Was Here～ミスター・ロボット』に収録されています。
  "Mr. Roboto" starting "Do-Mo-A-Ri-Ga-To Mr. Roboto" should not be omitted. Styx is an American Progressive Pop band, and this Techno song is contained in "Kilroy Was Here".

  Max Wernerはプログレ系Kayakのメンバー。ヴォコーダー仕様のキャッチ―なエレポップ・チューン。
  Max Werner is a member of Kayak, a Progressive Rock band. It's a catchy Electro Pop tune with a vocoder.
