フランスのフットボールチームをそのバンド名の由来とするSt. Etienneはインディー・ダンス・レーベルからスタートした。９０年にリリースされた最初のシングルはNeil Youngの名曲『Only Love Can Break Your Heart』である。サラのヴォーカルとしての最初のシングルは９１年の『Nothing Can Stop Us』である。サウンドはポップでキャッチーでダンサブルでかつハウスの要素も取り入れクラブシーンにおける地位を確立した。またフランスの人気者、Etienne DahoとSt. Etienne Dahoと言うそのまんまのユニット名でミニ・アルバムをリリースした。日本にPizzicato Fiveがいれば、英国にはSt. Etienneがいる。ちなみにBob Stanleyも小西康陽も偉大なるレコード・オタクである。

St. Etienne whose name came from French Football team started from Indie Dance Label. Their first single released in '90 was "Only Love Can Break Your Heart", the classic by Neil Young. The first single featuring Sarah was "Nothing Can Stop Us" in '91. Their sound is pop, catchy, danceable and influenced by house and they established the strong position in European Club Scene. They released the mini album with Etienne Daho, a popular guy in France under the very straight unit name St. Etienne Daho. As Japan has Pizzicato Five, the U. K. has Saint Etienne. Both Bob Stanley and Yasuharu Konishi are the world greatest record collectors.
