超マイナー・アーティストの宝庫とも言えるインディー・レーベル、サヴァイヴァル・レコーズを紹介します。エレポップ・デュオのドリンキング・エレクトリシティのメンバーが８１年にこのレーベルを設立しました。
This page introduces Survival Records, an indie label which is a treasury of ultra minor artists. The member of Drinking Electricity, an electro pop duo, founded this label in '81.
エレポップと言うよりテクノポップ的。

＜荒特派員＞元Shocx Lumania（ショックス・ルーマニア）というハードコア・パンク系バンドのメンバーだった人（'82年に脱退）。自身のレーベルRumble Recordsからは数枚のソロ・シングルと、アルバム『Emerging Melodies』（'79）をリリースしています。オムニバスにも収録されている「Joy Of Radiation」は'83年にシングル・リリース、香港のダンス・チャートで1位になったそうです。他にも色々なレーベルからレコードをリリースしていて、今年もCDをリリースしています。ジャンルを見ると「New Age」扱いになってたりして、ちょっと心配ですが・・・。
<Correspondent Ara> He was an ex-Shocx Lumania member (left in '82), a Hardcore Punk band. He released several solo singles and album "Emerging Melodies" on his own Rumble Records. He released the signle "Joy Of Radiation" that is included in the omnibus and it reached #1 in Hong Kong Dance Chart. He released records on various labels and a CD this year. It's a bit worrysome as he was categorized to New Age.

Later, Heighway and Rome founded Survival Records in '81.

＜荒特派員＞彼らは、サヴァイヴァルに移籍する以前に、Human Recordsというところからシングルを2枚出しているそうです。
＜Underpass (Denmark)特派員＞彼等は、Survivalレコードと契約する前に「Eddie Maelov & Sunshine Patteson」そして「Eddie and Sunshine」として2枚の7インチと12インチをリリースした。英国でのUltravoxの「Rage In Edenツアー」で一緒にツアーした。ユーリズミックスは、安っぽいおちょけたシンセポップを始めた時、彼等を参考にしたと思います。（ディスコグラフィー情報追加）
This is a New Romantic male/female duo based on a punk band Gloria Mundi who toured with Ultravox.
<Correspondent Ara> They also released two singles on Human Records before moving to Survival Records.
<Correspodent Underpass (Denmark)> They released two 7"/12"s, one as "Eddie Maelov & Sunshine Patteson", second as "Eddie and Sunshine", before signing with Survival Records. Toured with Ultravox on their Rage In Eden tour in the UK. Eurythmics were apparently to have been inspired by E. & S.'s image when they first started out! Cheesy & tongue-in-cheek synthpop. James Irvin率いるニューウェイヴ・ギーターポップ・バンド。シングル「Brilliant Mind」はUKで２１位のマイナー・ヒット。James IrvinはBecauseという名義でソロもリリース。残りの男性二人はTransglobal Undergroundのメンバーとして活動。
This is a New Wave Guitar Pop band led by James Irvin. Their single "Brilliant Mind" became a minor hit reaching 21th position in the U.K. James Irvin also released his solo under the name of Because. The other guys played as members of Transglobal Underground.
<Correspodent Underpass (Denmark)> Solo effort by Survival Records's in-house photographer & cover designer on many of their releases, P. K Edgley. Only released 2 singles. Additional vocals by Drinking Electricity!s member Anne Marie Heighway - much like them in sound as well!!
＜荒特派員＞SurvivalのIn House Projectとして、オーディションで選ばれたWayne Kennedyを中心に結成された3人組。シングル「You Don't〜」は、実に淡々とした、今で言うとエレクトロ・タイプの曲。好きです。

<Correspondent Ara> This is a trio formed around Wayne Kennedy who was selected in the audition as Survival's in-house project. The single "You Don't..." is Electro-type song in today's term which is really monotone. I like it.

＜荒特派員＞もう一人のメンバーであったディーンは1stシングル「Crime Down」発表後脱退。その後二ールを中心に再結成したらしい。ファンキー・エレ・ポップといった感じ。歌はヘタです。
＜Underpass (Denmark)特派員＞1982年にジョン・フォックスがプロデュースした英国のシンセポップ・アクト。そして、より一般的な演奏となり、さらに悪い事にその後のレコーディングでは普通のファンクの影響を覗わせる。
<Correspondent Ara> Dean, the other member, left after releasing the first single "Crime Down". It seems that they were reformed around Neil. It's like Funky Electro Pop. But, poor vocal.
<Correspondent Underpass (Denmark)> UK synthpop act produced by John Foxx in 1982, then moved towards more conventional instrumentation and later recordings reveal influences of regular "funk" to make matters even worse.
Tik&Tokはユニークな日本文化に影響されたパントマイムをするエレポップ・デュオ。TikことTim Dry氏（情報提供ありがとう）はBlitzのフューチャリスト・シーンにいたShockのメンバーでもあった。Tim DryのsiteではTik&Tokと現在活動中の元Data/SailorのGeorg KajanusとのユニットであるNoirのCDが購入できます。
＜わとす氏＞『Summer In The City』というデビューシングルをリリース後、1984年に『Intolerance』というアルバムを発表しています。これは日本盤でも発売されて、私はこの日本盤を所有してます。このアルバムには、ゲイリー・ニューマンがゲストとして参加しており、ゲイリー・ニューマンが作った曲『A Child With The Ghost』が収録されています。この曲は、後年、本人のアルバム『New Anger』にも本人バージョンで収録されています。
＜荒特派員＞アルバムには未収録ですが、シングル「Summer In The City」は84年、キャニオンから日本盤シングルも出ていました。Russell Bellも参加していますが、この人も『Telekon』からゲイリーとは長い付き合いの人ですね。
＜元Shock/Tik＆TokのTim Dry氏＞Blitzシーンはロンドンで７９〜８０年に初期のデビット・ボウイ、ロキシー・ミュージック、クラフトワーク等だけをプレイしたクラブをやっていたRusty
Eganによって始められた。ディスコ、ニュー・ウェイヴ等の他でやっていたものとは異色の音楽をプレイしていた事から、少しづつだがこのクラブは人気を獲ていった。Rustyは自称Steve
Strangeを見いだし、普通でないグラマラスな格好をしていた人だけをクラブに入れるドアマン（黒服）にした。
約１年後、クラブにとても人気が出てきた（人々はたとえ一日であっても平凡で退屈な毎日の生活から抜け出す必要があった！）ために大きなクラブを見つけなくてはいけなくなった。新しいクラブはBlitzと呼ばれるCovent Gardenのワイン・バーであった。クローク・ルームで働いていた（クラブに入る際お客のコートの面倒を見る）美しい女の子のような若者、彼こそはBoy
Georgeであった。
とても、小さなシーンで、かつロンドンだけであったためそのころは皆が皆を知っていた。ShockはMidgeとBillyのUltravox、後にSpaudau
Balletとなる少年たちと共にBlitzでこんな人たちの前で演奏をしていた。
Tik&TokはこのころまだShockの一部で、Ultravoxのためのビデオをやりました。僕たちの衣装を全て作っていたJane
KahnはSimon Le Bonの恋人だったのでDuran Duranもよく知っていました。
その退廃的や浪漫時代的なところから音楽を作っていた皆は欧州の音楽にとても影響されていました。ShockはCabaret
Voltaire、Fad Gadget、Talking Heads、自分たち独自のものと同様にYellow
Magic Orchestraを自分たちの曲の部分に使っていました。
ShockがTik&Tokに分裂したころ日本文化により興味が出てきました。８２年にとても大きい高価なホテルでの大規模なヘアー・スタイルのエクジビションでパーフォマンスと振り付けをするため東京へ行きました。僕らは古い侍の伝統、とてもハイテックで未来的な社会が共存するエキサイティングな文化の融合がとても気に入りました。人々の礼儀正しさ、優雅さ、優美さも気に入りました。まるで未来を訪ねたようでした。
僕たちの衣装やステージ・ショウは日本からの影響をとてもうけました。能や歌舞伎、山海塾というすばらしい演劇団の要素も取り込みました。オープニングの様式もロボット的なものから忍者へと。感激のRoland
SH101のシンセも持ち帰りました。自分たちの文化に誇りと理解を持ちつつも日本の若者が西洋のポップ・ミュージックや文化を進んで取り入れるのを見るのはとても興味深かった。Tik&Tokが東京にいたころ、日本の友達が案内してくれた。彼は黒い６９年代式ロンドンのキャブに乗り、Jane
Kahnのニューロマの服を着ていた。
もちろん、YMOは好きだった。坂本のソロも好きだった。Sandii
& The Sunsetzも。彼女はとてもセクシーでグラマラスだ。そして、日本食に美しい娘たちもね。
Tik & Tok is an Electro Pop duo with a unique Japan-influenced mime act on Survival Records. Mr. Tim Dry a.k.a Tik (thanks for providing the information) was also a member of Shock that was in the Blitz Futurist scene. In Tim Dry's site you can buy the CD's of Tik & Tok and his current act, Noir, partnering with Georg Kajanus, ex-Data/Sailor.
<Mr. Watosu> They released the album "Intolerance" in 1984 after releasing their debut single "Summer In The City". It was released in Japan and I have the Japanese issue. Gary Numan joined this album as a guest and his song "A Child With The Ghost" is contained. This song is also included in Gary's album "New Anger".
<Correspondent Ara> While it's not contained in the album, the single "Summer In The City" was released on Canyon in '84 in Japan. Russell Bell also joined this, he has long relationship with Gary Numan since "Telekon".
<Mr. Tim Dry, ex-Shock/Tik & Tok>
The whole BLITZ scene was started in London
back in '79/'80 by RUSTY EGAN who ran a club that only played early BOWIE,
ROXY MUSIC, KRAFTWERK etc. Bit by bit more
and more people started to come to this club,as
the music was so different to what was being
played everywhere else, like Disco, New Wave
etc. Rusty found a young guy who called himself
STEVE STRANGE to be the Doorman who would only let people
into the club if they were dressed in an
unusual and glamourous way..
After about a year they had to find a bigger
club as it had become so popular (people
need to escape their dull and boring every-day
lives,even if for only one night!) The new
club was a wine bar in Covent Garden called
BLITZ. A young man who looked like a beautiful
girl used to work as the cloakroom attendant
(he would look after peoples' coats when
they entered the club) he was BOY GEORGE!
Because it was such a small scene, and only
in London, at this time everybody knew everyone
else.SHOCK performed at BLITZ in front of all these
people ,like Midge and Billy from ULTRAVOX, the boys who would very shortly become
SPANDAU BALLET,etc,etc.
TIK & TOK were still part of SHOCK at this time,and
we did one video for ULTRAVOX.We also knew
DURAN DURAN,because JANE KAHN who made all our clothes used to be SIMON LE BON's girlfriend!
Everyone who made music was very influenced
by European music,because it seemed to reflect
a more decadent,romantic age...SHOCK used
The YELLOW MAGIC ORHESTRA for one of our pieces,as well as CABARET
VOLTAIRE, FAD GADGET, TALKING HEADS, and
our own stuff.
When SHOCK split up TIK & TOK became more and more interested in Japanese
culture -we came to TOKYO in 1982 to perform
in and choreograph a very large Hair Exhibition
in a huge, very expensive hotel!!We loved
the exciting mixture of a very old culture,
SAMURAI tradition,and a very Hi Tech,Futuristic
society existing at the same time.We loved
the courtesy of the people,their grace and
elegance. It was like visiting the future!
We came back with lots of Japanese influences
for our clothes and our stage show... We
used elements of Noh & Kabuki and a wonderful
theatre group we saw called SANKAI JUKU.We
also changed our opening piece from a ROBOTIC
style to NINJA! Plus we also brought
back a Roland SH 101 synththat we were amazed
by! It was very interesting to see how young
Japanese people embraced Western Pop music
and culture,but were also very proud and
aware of their own.
When TnT were in Tokyo we had a Japanese
friend who showed us around.He used to drive
us in a black ,1960's London Taxi Cab and
he used to wear all of Jane Kahn's New Romantic
clothes!!
We liked YMO of course, but SAKAMOTO's solo music we liked above all, and SANDII
& THE SUNSETS too! She was very sexy
and glamourous!
Plus the Japanese food and those beautiful
girls!
